If the same person who did the measuring 44 years ago remeasured and got different numbers I bet I know what his response would be. If someone other than the person of 44 years ago measured and got different numbers I wonder what his response would be. Would he say, No, no he got it wrong or would he say "just shows you how much wear and tear has occurred".

Good point which only emphasises the problems we have with any modern measure which claims to overthrow a much older one.

Yeah Ok. There is always the tendency to combine various results and take the middle road. My approach is to take the first measures of any competent surveyor and stick with them. Sometimes that's the only way to solve particular problems. If you mix and match you don't really put your trust in anyone.
