Manetho created the Dynasties for a reason that made sense to Egyptians.

Throwing it out for the sake of making Osiris seem closer to the Gizamids is the truly flawed methodology.

I'm not the one trying to make it seem chronologically far away here. You, with your "the way to make 50 years seem longer is to say Dynasty 4 and Dynasty 5" are the one trying to make the difference between the dynasties seem minimal by saying "it's only 50 years".


France. 1639 to 1659.

It was "only twenty years", but it was also the twenty years that marked the difference between Louis XIII and Louis XIV, Le Roi de Soleil, bringing sustained peace to the region and making France the single greatest power in all of Europe. It was only twenty years. Maybe we should just do away with the whole "naming the reigns" thing, eh? Would you argue that it must have been exactly the same at both ends of that particular timeframe? There is at least as much evidence of massive social and religious upheaval during the centuries included in Dynasty IV and V as there is from the early reign of Louis XIV. It cannot be overlooked, dismissed, or minimized.

During the time of Dynasty IV and Dynasty V, it wasn't "only fifty years". Firstly, it was almost 200 years from the time of Khufu to the first attestation of Osiris. It was over 250 years from the beginning of Dynasty IV to the first appearance of the Pyramid Texts. I'd ask you to stop playing word games in an apparent attempt to minimize that substantial difference.

Secondly, as I said above, Manetho did what he did for a reason. Unless we know his reason, we have no right to dismiss it. Dismissing evidence is not how we get closer to the truth. Maybe it's how some people get closer to what they wish were the truth, but they shouldn't expect others to just roll over and play dead while they dismiss valid evidence, or worse, play word games with time frames.
