It may be a guess, Lee, but I like it.

My understanding is that Petrie took one measurement at the start of the Sub Passage roof (which is 20" south of the start of the Sub Passage floor) and two (east side and west side) where the Passage opens into the Subterranean Chamber.
What is not helpful here is the absence of vertical measures at other points along the Passage.
