As to the wear in the floor of the north end of the Horizontal Passage, my guess is that it was caused by the removal of material during the excavations in the Subterranean Chamber. For whatever reason, a protective layer may not have been in place at this location during some of this process, and as the sledge - or whatever container it might have been - was being dragged upward at the bend in order to navigate onto the Ascending Passage, extra friction would have been caused at this northern end of the Horizontal Passage. Just a guess.
As for the the interior height of the Horizontal Passage, I don't find where Petrie says from what point in the Passage he took his measurement. I do note, however, that Piazzi Smyth lists it as having a height of 36 inches (Our Inheritance - p. 221).
