11:48-12.29 ... to Egypt, and then I found myself for the first time, in 1989, actually, confronted by the majesty of the Great Pyramid, and the mystery of it. And I was stunned - I was just awe-struck by this enormous, incredibly precise, beautiful thing; and I immediately wanted to find out what are archaeologists saying about it; and I found that same kind of very narrow, very limited focus, in the archaeological accounts; that they insist that it, that the Great Pyramid was built as the tomb for a specific pharaoh: when in fact there's no evidence that it was built as a tomb for a specific pharaoh. In fact, there's 100 plus pyramids in Egypt, and no body of any pharaoh has ever been found in any one of them ( [
www.youtube.com] ) .
<< there's no evidence that it was built as a tomb for a specific pharaoh >>
But this point has been raised and answered time after time over the years: frequently on Mr. Hancock's very own website (has he never seen these discussions?):
- for instance, this post - [
grahamhancock.com], urging the importance of context when considering the Great Pyramid;
- this one: [
grahamhancock.com]: "the Egyptians themselves left record of their looting and in those accounts describe what was commonly known about the function of these monuments";
- this one: [
grahamhancock.com]:
<< > What solid proof do we have that the pyramids were used as tombs?
<< All pyramids were robbed but in a number of them there were still remains of the original burial goods and human remains. In those that were picked clean of burial goods, we still find in
most cases the sarcophagus (and a canopic chest / space).
The same post also mentions finds in:
- Neferefre (Abusir): fragments of 4 alabaster canopic jars, alabaster containers for models of offerings and parts of the ruler's mummy.
- Djedkare (Saqqara): shards of broken vessels were found in the vestibule, in the burial chamber fragments of alabaster canopic jars and remains of the king's mummy.
- Unas (Saqqara): couple fragments of a mummy: Parts of a right arm, skull and shinbone were found (no C14 dating). In the serdab wooden handles of two small knives used during ceremony of the opening of the mouth.
- Teti (Saqqara) Blackened remains of an arm and shoulder (no C14 dating), a fragment of a small alabaster tablet bearing the names of the so-called seven sacred oils ...
Etc. etc.
From elswhere on the Web, this blog:
[
web.archive.org] -
<< Among many in the fringe camp, the Great Pyramid is stated emphatically not to have been a tomb. Fringe adherents will put forth numerous examples for why this is so, but such arguments also fall in the face of scrutiny. One of the chief problems with the fringe position is the tendency to pull the Great Pyramid out of context, as though it somehow stands alone, unrelated, in the span and breadth of pharaonic Egypt. This dooms the fringe stance from the start ...
...
<< As mentioned, also questioned by the fringe is the fact that the Great Pyramid was erected for King Khufu, in Dynasty 4 (conventionally spanning 2597-2471 BCE). Khufu is believed to have reigned between 2547 to 2524 BCE. The carbon dating might be telling us he lived somewhat earlier, but the fringe camp argues that the Great Pyramid bears no inscriptions proving the pyramid was built for Khufu. This is incorrect. There is ample graffiti in the sets of relieving chambers above the King’s Chamber that prove the Great Pyramid was built for Khufu. >>
(For more on this point, see [
oi.uchicago.edu], pg. 126 onwards.)
One example from here on Ma'at: [
www.maatforum.com]:
<< The GPs function is to be the tomb and monument to Khufu, a great big Khufu was here! To echo down through the ages. That is why there is a sarcophagus in the sole finished chamber. That is why is is surrounded by the small pyramids and mastaba tombs of his wives, family and court. >>
One final point:
At about 05:00 in the video, Graham Hancock says that "this is the first time that a thoroughly-researched alternative view of pre-history has been presented on a major platform" ...
Clearly, viewers (and readers) will have to make up their own minds about the thoroughness of Mr. Hancock's research.
