I suppose I must be Lady Hawk here then Don ... because my vote is somewhere in that 52% ...... yep I voted on that one (and noticed the generality of the choices)....
When this first started I thought ground troops were the wrong way to go ... however ... after more thought I'm not so sure about it not being feasable ....
Yes.. the rebels have beaten a major superpower ... Russia ... or more exactly the Soviet Union. But they only did so with the backing and support of the US .... their weapons and fuel now come from Pakistan. Pakistan seems to have come into the fold ... and the US and Russia are working together along with many other nations .... strip them of their allies and they will fall ....
As for the Afghan people I feel comfortable that our military will be as careful as possible around civilians ...
The fact of the matter is really that most of the world doesn't recognize the Taliban as the rightful leaders of Afghanstan ... and the rightful government in the north is willing to step in and play their role in showing us the countryside and using their knowledge and expertise since they've been fighting the Taliban for years. It is no accident of timing that their leader was murdered by bin Laden mere days before the WTC attack....
I personally do not want to see bin Laden killed.... first of all that would be a mercy ... and I really have trouble finding mercy in me right now ... and secondly .... I do not want him to die a hero .... I want him to die old in his prison bed ..... perferably his name forgotton ....
