This is such an interesting response, that basically shows the emotional content, and the lack of understanding by the American people.
95% of Afghanistan has nothing more than stones or sticks with which to fight. These people are poor beyond our wildest dreams. As articles here have stated, they are already IN the stone age... we can't bomb them back to it.
We need massive, worldwide retaliation against terrorist groups and the people that sponsor them. No country, except one fanatical religious group that has usurped the authority in a ramshackle decrepit nation, is really going to step up against the rest of the civilized world to stand against this kind of pressure. In that case, we only need to return Afghanistan to the Afghans... not destroy the country.
And the terrorists? (or, as I prefer to call them, "Cowardists")... Ashcroft has a GREAT solution for that...
Freeze their assets. This will cease their ability to buy missiles or airline tickets.
It's tough to be very terrifying if you don't have any expensive weapons. It certainly cuts down on your effectiveness, anyway. We'll let that take the wind out of their sails. Combined with missile strikes against the bases, and ground assaults to smoke out Bin Laden, AND putting the Afghans back in power...
they'll quickly run out of things to do. As they get more desperate, they will become more and more easy to spot.
There will be other losses... but in the end, the forces of freedom and tolerance will prevail. Afghanistan will begin to finally recover (with aid from the United States and other western nations... just look what we did for Japan after WWII), terrorism will be seen as the international offense to civilization that it has always been, and the world will eventually be a safer place.
That's what my crystal ball says.
Oh, and by the way... just to let you know how well organized some Americans are...
The largest tenant in the World Trade Center, Morgan Stanley, had 3700 people in the building when the first plane hit.
As of last night, only SIX are missing. Yes, it's six too many... but it's only six. This kind of efficiency is NOT what Al Quaida or the Islamic Jihad are expecting... but it IS what America can do when it wants.
And we will continue to move in this precise, almost surgical manner... until Cowardism is erased.
I don't know... it's just a dream I have...
