Thanks for that. It is interesting to compare the different translations....oh and here is Cladkings translation of the same piece.

""Utterance 313.

502a. To say: The phallus of Bȝ-bii is drawn; the double doors of heaven are opened.
502b. The double doors of heaven are locked; the way goes over the flames under that which the gods create,
503a. which allows each Horus to glide through, in which N. will glide through, in this flame under that which the gods create.
503b. They make a way for N., that N. may pass by it. N. is a Horus.

To understand these (for most people) they must be reversed. Ancient people thought differently and reasoned from the general to the specific.

502b. Read out loud to the mourners; The double doors of heaven are locked; the way goes over the flames under that which the gods create,

This ritual takes place at night. The water causes the the mks-sceptre to rock in the mn-canal and this flame on the top of the first step at 81' 3" provides the light to see. Above this the gods create the pyramid. The doors must be locked open and the route of the stones (the way) goes right up the side of the second step which is over the flame.

503a. which allows each Horus to glide through, in which N. will glide through, in this flame under that which the gods create.

Horus the younger is the stones from the Land of Horus where the great pyramids were built. Each horus glides through and would be visible because of the flame.

503b. They make a way for N., that N. may pass by it. N. is a Horus.

The gods who create make a way for the stones which will comprise the king's ka. The king as horus, as the stone, passes this way. The pyramid is the ka (life's work) of the king and it is comprised of horuses.

502a. The phallus of Bȝ-bii is drawn; the double doors of heaven are opened.

The potency of human progress (thot) can be seen as the doors which allow water flow are opened.

Their words were not symbolic but were representative. This may apply solely or chiefly to heiroglyphs. With representative words writing is less important so writing may well have been invented to record modern language. The PT is written in the ancient metaphysics which invented agriculture and cities.

If more people read the PT there would be more ideas about the meaning. As is we believe it's just incantation and as such is remarkably unimportant unless you believe the old time magic actually works. Analyzing it as incantation simply isn't working and no meaning has emerged.

I believe my "interpretation is actually quite close to author intent. Of course it's not a perfectly clean fit but I believe this is because Mercer didn't understand it at all. He circumscribed the meaning as though it were English. He assumed the writers thought just like he did. I believe a cleaner translation would result in a better fit and that more rules of grammar would emerge shedding light on additional meaning.""
