I very much agree with Colavito that Morrow's translation, and her over-all treatment, leaves much to be desired. However, I also agree with him when he says, "Morrow may have a point that too literal a translation may miss some of the more subtle aspects of the texts."

Granted that Morrow leans alarmingly far away from center in her interpretations, I would argue that she is at least aware of the literality in previous translations and is making an attempt to move things back towards a more nuanced understanding of original intent. That said, although I appreciate the broader picture of what it is she is trying to do, I do disagree with much of her tantric laden approach.

I believe that she is entirely correct, however, in recognizing the central importance of the circumpolar region in these texts, and in recognizing the fact that "Re" is a presence in this circumpolar region. That is, that the term "Re" is often referring to a polar entity rather than, or as well as, a solar entity. And this a huge point to make as it has implications and ramifications that extend right on down the line. This latter insight is not original with her, and although she fails to credit any source, she is at least was willing to put it forward.
