I wonder whatever became of the debate over the "Pharaoh smiting his enemies" pose ..... some have said that that is where the association between Pharaoh and Orion came from ....
Are you familar with that Ishmael?
---------
Yes! But I had forgotten all about it!
Now that you mention it, I recall reading about it. Very Interesting!
And of course, the pose (and the constelation) is associated with Hercules and Samson and many other ancient hero.
I can't see why certain individuals seem to get so upset by the mere suggestion that the Egyptians arranged Giza in such a way as to paralel the arangment of the belt stars.
Why the heck not?
Are we so arrogant as to presume we understand all there is to know concerning their thought process?
I'll tell you something....I have a little theory (speculation really) concerning the "Tomb of Osiros."
I recal reading or hearing that Egyptians of later dynasties often "mistook" the tombs of ancient pharoes for the "Tomb of Osirus" and would bring sacred offerings to those tombs to win the favour of the dead god.
Well it seems to me that maybe it is we who are mistaken!
I think it is just as possible that the Egyptians believed that every tomb of every Pharoe was a "Tomb of Osirus." Osirus, to them, may have been like a heavenly force that inhabited the body of each king - or that each king was somehow a vehicle for the soul of Osirus.
If this is true, searching for the original "Tomb of Osirus" (such as the cavities below the Pyramids excavated now by Zahi Hawas) is a lost cause. Each Pharoe's body is a temple of Osirus and thus it continued to be venrated even post-mortum.
Why were the tombs of certain pharoes the object of pilgrimage rather than others? Perhaps particularly venerated pharoes were considered more perfect vessels for the living incarnation(?).
Anyway....that's just speculation really and no one should use this stuff against me! :-)
