William of Ockham intended his eponymous razor as a tool of ontological economy. Whilst it is attractive, and will often be useful in other circumstances, it will not <b>necessarily</b> give a foolproof way deciding which (if any) of two theories is true.

My 0.02p on scientific method (to part-address Martin's question) is that scientific method is a great tool for revealing what is false but that it cannot itself tell you what is true. There is, I think, a distinction.</HTML>
