<HTML>There are various kinds of dating - serial dating, relative dating and radiometric dating. The former two are archaeological, whilst the latter relies heavily upon archaeology (e.g. determination of contamination by surrounding geological and archaeological materials). Many people, e.g. J Vogel, who are radiometric experts are also archaeologists.

Straigraphy is seen there on site. Burials are detected through exmaination of stratigraphy, amongst other factors. Stratigraphic correlations are made throughout a site itself and between sites, e.g. the hominin sites of East Africa.

The stratigraphy is further refined by the use of geologists sometimes on excavations, as well as determining the composition of various stratigraphic layers which allows the stratigraphy to be traced over vast distances.

A logical sequence is one aspect, but not the whole thing:-)

Cheers,
