Why is God associated with light (asked of a Phd in Theology - face to face)? 10 second pause. A look of fear over her face. It was humiliating. She had no idea and she has a PhD.
I chose to continue

How can I have preconceived conclusions when I had no idea what the story of Noah falling asleep in the tent meant? Or, what it meant to have Moses face "emanate rays"? This preconceived conclusion won't be truthful or accurate (certainly not represented by the evidence) no matter how many times it's said.

If we only look at what's said using a literalist interpretation, that's good enough for you?

I'm saying I've tried thinking TWO ways when reading biblical (religious) texts: literally and symbolically.

Of course not, then that would defeat the purpose of writing it USING symbolism.

LOL! I suppose that could be true. But, probability dictates otherwise.

There were no preconceived conclusions. If the rock fits, it fits.
I hate to ask, but IF (purely hypothetical), the bible was filled to the brim with symbolism, how would you suggest we figure that out?

Shephard of Hermas - 2[79]:2 Now this rock was ancient, and had a gate hewn out of it; but the gate seemed to me to have been hewed out quite recently. And the gate glistened beyond the brightness of the sun, so that I marvelled at the brightness of the gate.
