I'm not talking about the human cost, either. I'm talking about knowledge. Besides the knowledge that died with the people, the languages, the ways of understanding, there are the recorded writings that were deliberately destroyed. It's no more or less of an unknown that what was lost in the library of Alexandria. The science, the astronomy, calendrics, medicine, logic -- it's all gone.

On the nuclear stuff, I honestly think we are too close to this in time to be objective. For me, it's always been hard to justify the bomb, let alone its use. Some of what happened in the world in the cold war was a continuation of WW II, and, IMO, it's hard to separate post war from actual war. But I think it comes too close to modern politics to be allowed on this board to get into all the specifics. smiling smiley
