There is really no dilemma between whether the shafts are purely geometric or whether they are links from stars - the answer is both !

Assume the QC shafts would have exited at the same horizontal level if continued, which seems to be correct.
Then they both must have the same inclination.
The shafts have some variations of the angles in their lengths which makes overall average inclination difficult.
But let us assume they are both 9/11 which is 39.3 degrees.

It is truly genius by the AE how it all fits together. The KC and QC northern shafts converge to a point level with the apex of the pyramid !

The rest of Jim Alison's page explains how the theme of 9 and 11 has been used many times in the construction.

The northern QC shaft is lined up almost with Kocab and the southern QC shaft almost with Sirius.
But they do match exactly on a certain date 2450 BC and have the same elevation of 9 on 11

Alison explains :

While the upper culmination of Kochab was getting lower in the northern sky, the culmination of Sirius was getting higher in the southern sky. In the sky above Giza, the upper culmination of Kochab was higher than the culmination of Sirius, prior to 2450 B.C. The culmination of Sirius was higher than the upper culmination of Kochab after 2450 B.C. The upper culmination of Kochab and the culmination of Sirius were the same angle above the horizon in the sky above Giza in 2450 B.C. Given the significance of Kochab and Sirius to the ancient Egyptians, it is likely that they were aware that the angles above the horizon of the culminations of Sirius and Kochab had been getting closer to each other for hundreds of years, and one of the purposes of the shafts may have been to memorialize the time when the culminations of both stars were at the same angle above the horizon. The angle of both stars above the horizon was approximately 39.35° in 2450 B.C. This is close to the angles proposed by Gantenbrink from his survey and close to the angle produced by the 9/11 slope proposed above. 2450 B.C. is also close to the astronomically derived orientation date given by Spence based on the simultaneous transit of Kochab over Mizar, and even closer to the astronomically derived orientation date if the great pyramid and the second pyramid at Giza were both oriented based on the simultaneous transit of Mizar over Kochab.

The two stars Kocab and Sirius were important ones at the time of Khufu.
Kocab was used to count the days of the stellar calendar. And Sirius was the year counter.
That they should have the same elevation of 9/11 was regarded as significant.
There were 9 gods in the Great Ennead and 11 gods in the Lesser Ennead,
These gods are the ones that the dead king would join in the sky.

Assuming this is all correct, then the QC shafts do have a purpose and have confirmed the dates of the pyramids.
