'But I do think our amateur efforts can make a useful contribution.'
Yes a useful contribution, but do not expect Egyptology to take any notice. My experience of Egyptology is one or a very unhelpful discipline. I cannot get a single Egyptologist to respond to the issues i have raised on the Bent, just a wall of silence. I have offered a solution to the Bent that shows more respect to the ancient builders, other than showing them out to be cowboy builders. We can clearly see stepped cores in 4,5&6th dynasty pyramids, why can we not see it in the Bent, but illogically Egyptology sees a 60 degree pyramid, and moreover the silly builders piled thousands upon thousands of tons against a 60 degree slip plane that lay on the desert sand!
These builders were just as smart as us, and when it comes to building in stone immeasureably more so. If ever Egyptology gets around to doing a thorough sientific scrutiny of the structure, l suspect they might find that we have a stepped core, that is anchored to bedrock not clay, and against this the casing was fitted as we see at Meidum. My analysis of the structure, based on the very limited data that Egyptology supplies us with, is that there is a high probability that the structure is a successful build and not a failure. Though Egyptology refuse to respond to me, other discilines have, with some encouragement and ideas, who like the simplicity of my ideas.
My challenge to Egyptology is to provide evidence to support their position, of course such evidence can only come from a thorough examination of the structure, something Egyptology has refused to do and a gross direliction of duty. In the world of Egyptology, opinion often morphs into fact, the use of science is too often not required to support their opinions/facts; it feels like a church of Egyptology, were the elders tell the faithful what to believe. Of course l would be labelled a heretic, and some would pander back to the good old days when such heretics could be dispatched by torch:-)
