What are your sources for "ancient Malay"? Checking the linguistics sites, I see that the oldest form of the Malay language was a text written in the 1300's (AD.) A previous form, called "Old Malay" and heavily influenced by Sanskrit appeared around 600 AD: [

The modern language is a real creole-mix containing words from several dozen influences such as the Dutch and spanish and English and Portugese. Old Malay was infuenced by Sanskrit, but none of these languages are really related, as we can see from the way they form plurals. Affixes are also handled differently in Malay and Oscan (and Lycian)

But Malay doesn't come from the proto-Indo-European languages (list found here) :

Scholars for hundreds of years have tried tracing the origins of words and languages (piecing out the "family tree" of languages is what linguists do.) There's a lot of good information out there on all these languages that you're looking at, including material on the proto languages that they're derived from.
