Hi Hermione,

"... the edition from which I'm working seems to differ from this ..."

You probably have Faulkner's 1972 translation - the 1998 book I am using, is based on Faulkners translation but has additional material.

From the preface:

"The translation used is that produced by the distinguished British Egyptologist the late Dr. R.O. Faulkner, generally agreed to be one of the best translations available. The up-to-date emendations in light of recent scholarship, additional material such as the provision of a translation of Chapter 64, one of the most interesting in the Book of the Dead (not included in Ani's papyrus), and a full commentary, which will be of use to the public and scholars alike, are the work of Dr. Ogden Goelet." (Carol A.R. Andrews, Dept. of Egyptian Antiquities, British Museum)

H: "There doesn't seem to be any mention of Orion here ..."

Not surprising, the link you gave only gives the first paragraph of chapter 64 - there are still another 15 paragraphs to go!!!! - Orion is mentioned in paragraph six.

btw. its interesting that Middle Kingdom graffiti in the Wadi el-Fawakhir shows cartouches of Khufu, Djedefra, Khafra, Baefra and Hardedef.
