Eh, supermarkets don't depress me as much as the average boutique.... or for that matter, the clothes section of the average department store.
PLASTIC CLOTHES? Shoes that flash & glow due to built in mercury cadmium batteries? (Hey, gotta fill up those landfills somehow, neh? Too bad about the water table.)?
Synthetic dies (not even all that colorfast!) even on the "natural" fabrics?
Children's clothes with a tenth the material of an adult garment, at roughly the same price? (Guess I can't complain much, though, looking over in the toy aisle I note that BARBIE clothes are the highest priced garments in the place, ounce for ounce). I'm NOT even going to comment about bathing suits, or underwear!
Girls' clothes WITHOUT POCKETS!
Impossibly thin manniquins with fixed smiles..... glamourous people in the posters on the walls (at least safeway doesn't program kids into thinking that eating potato chips makes them skinny, or that buying bologna puts you right up there with movie stars & millionaires).
Forget Safeway.... at least THEY aren't likely to grow their food in sweatshops, or using prison labor.
