Indeed. One of the dangers is that that very freedom could be a casualty of any inconceived reaction to this outrage; we can be certain that truth will be an early casualty. If this attack results in an increase in repression anywhere, then the scum that perpetrated it will have had their way – I don't think that it's any secret that one of the aims of terrorism is often to force the target governments to introduce measures that will restrict individual rights and thereby lead to more opposition to that government.
One positive thing that <i>could</i> (but probably won't) come out of this disgusting act is the realisation that <b>all</b> terrorism must be unconditionally opposed, whether its perpetrators and/or sponsors are individuals, dissident groups or governments.
I guess that one of the questions that the intelligence agencies will be asking themselves is "who benefits?".</HTML>
