TTBOMK Christianity was first adopted by upper middle class Romans...Knights.
That is why they were considered dangerous. It was also why proscribing them was fiscally advantageous for Nero. There was no end of Cults in 'The Stews', which were never discouraged as a matter of policy.
And a Slave could allways pray to be manumitted or to earn his freedom. Which was far more likely for a Greek or Even Roman slave..hence an adherrent of Apollo.
But to be frank... Roman Slavery is a discussion Topic that is best described as endless shades of grey.
