The orthodoxy (if there is one) says that the pyramids of Dynasty III and IV were NOT "tombs and tombs only".
First, there were some that were cenotaphs (the Bent, for example).
Secondly, a pyramid was far more than a "tomb", as we understand it in our modern culture. A Formula 1 racing machine and a Mini Cooper are both "cars", but their functions are dramatically different. In the same way, we have to be careful in the meaning we convey when we use the word "tomb". The "tomb and tomb only" argument is actually an over played strawman argument used by deceptive historians to try and make the massive constructs of the Old Kingdom seem preposterous as simple structures intended to hold a body.
I know you know that, but I also think it should be stated clearly.
