There are of course kernels of truth in mythology, storytelling — such is the case with the Westcar. Its formula has magical occurrences weaved with known kings in succession before and after Khufu’s reign, and the succession of three kings (triplets) that began the 5th dynasty. The latter is actually twins but conflated by three queens with the same name, two of which gave birth to twins.
Conjuring the design of a pyramid based on elements found in texts that post-date its conception is a fools errand in my opinion, with the caveat that such texts were generally implemented to somehow increase the deceased’s ability to live for eternity in the afterlife. It’s here that I agree with your over-arching point wholeheartedly about the PT’s, the contexts of the texts are not a how-to step by step formula, but are merely expressions of desire by the deceased to live as they had on earth in the afterlife, the texts build on past cultural ideas but are products of an ever evolving formulaic process endured and expanded by each generation.
