Like Mr. Smith, founder of the Mormon Church, who spent days locked in his house with a papyrus and eventually emerged speaking to his followers… explaining he had deciphered the ancient document as being the Book of Joseph.
Smith purchased the document from a traveling horse drawn wagon outside the city of St. Louis, the fella driving the wagon had departed New York with a load of artifacts that had been part of a curiosity show of ancient Egyptian artifacts. The owner of the attraction hired the driver to travel to towns with the exhibition to make money showing the collection and sell what he could, all because after months on exhibit in New York the objects were of no interest to the public anymore.
Smith’s document (purchased from the wagon driver) was a NK copy of the Book of the Dead, which he miraculously deciphered as the Book of Joseph, and this document became the foundational element of the Mormon Church.
