Another major piece of physical evidence may be the
orientation of the stones at the entrance to the py-
ramid. Petrie nd others have suggested that it ap-
peared these were arranged such that there might have
been additional structure toward the north. This en-
trance is close to the same level as the queens cham-
ber and additional structure might have been designed
to catch the falling water near its apex. This is
offset slightly from the N/S centerline so it would
not interfere with the operation of the counterweight.
