I can see the calendar.
By the same token it would be absolute madness to expend
so much effort for this alone.
...Just as it would be madness to expend it on a tomb.
There's more going on here than meets the eye. Reading of
the Pyramid Texts and other ancient literature leads one not
only to see the importance of religion to builders but also
leads one to wonder how they came to these particular beliefs
and why they would change over time.
I think these should be viewed as a product of a society in
a constant state of flux just as is (was) any other society.
The fact that these are the finest and the last of the great
pyramids screams volumes. A great deal had to have changed
after the 4th dynasty.
It's a near certainty that these were built with primitive
tools but still they managed to not only erect a huge pile
of stones but to do it with great precision. This suggests
many things and not the least of which is that they had per-
haps many reasons and at least one was compelling. It seems
unlikely that the construction of a calendar was compelling.
