I wrote, ‘I am not at all happy with Anthony's "Contingency Burial Chamber" theory; there are quite simply too many things wrong with it - mostly in the form of lack of answers to questions such as: Where are the coffers in the Subterranean and Queen's Chambers?
You reply, ‘he only had one body. Since he lived long enough to see his intended burial chamber completed, there was no need to put an emergency contingency sarcophagus anywhere else in the pyramid. This sarcophagus would have been roughed out in a block of stone just small enough to slide into whatever room was being used at the time of the king's death. Since he lived long enough, this eventuality never occurred.’
I find your explanation extraordinarily flimsy.
On the one hand you have a people building a magnificent pyramid complete with the awesome Grand Gallery and magnificent King’s Chamber (both considered to be remarkable achievements) for the final resting place for their king.
On the other hand you have the selfsame people prepared to bury their king in an unfinished chamber that is to have a poor quality sarcophagus shoved into it at the very last minute.
An odd thought: Sneferu only had one body, but that didn’t stop him from building three tombs.
I asked, ‘Why are the three chambers so different in size and design?
You answer, ‘Because in the overall grand master plan, they had distinct purposes and functions. However, had the king died early, those functions would have been rendered null and void, and the rooms would have been switched over to accommodate burial goods.’
It would help matters greatly if you were to explain what these ‘distinct purposes and functions’ were and how the king dying ahead of schedule rendered them null and void.
I wrote, ‘Why wasn't a 'contingency' burial chamber built at or close to ground level - the most obvious place for such a thing?’
You reply, ‘Because there was no need for a final chamber at or close to ground level.’
Are you saying that the Subterranean Chamber negates the need for a 'contingency' burial chamber at or close to ground level?
