I never said Horemheb was, or was not a commoner. I've never read historical facts clearly stating either way his antecedents or noble bloodline.
He certainly wasn't a "Joe Nobody". I believe he had a meteoric rise in the military reformation under Tutankhamun after Akenaton's somewhat foolish over emphasis on Amarna and lack of attention to restless borders had led to some perceived chaos on the frontiers. He rose quickly enough Tutankhamun named him heir, but Ay outmaneuvered him to delay his ascension to Pharaoh.
What Horhemhab wasn't was unbiased, or unvested. He was as deeply up to his neck in the power struggle and machinations as the rest were. My original point was the Hittite prince was uninvolved in that struggle and would owe loyalty only to the Queen. I think it more likely Ankhsenamun would have perceived Horhemhab as a competitor, a rival to her claim on the throne.
A decent book to understand the twisted pathways and shifting powerbases near these penultimate power positions, such as Pharaoh, is Niccolò Machiavelli's "the Prince". While many of the sciences, arts, and tools have progressed, the basic human nature that underlies the rip currents surrounding power people and their entourages haven't.
