It actually wasn't intended to be a trick question, but I see your point.

To Chris: What I'm trying to get at is the fact that from Giza Orion is invisible -- both day and night -- for more than 60 days of the year. The claim that Orion crosses the sky every 24 hours is simply not correct.

This effectively makes the shaft-aiming idea a joke imo because for a big segment of the year Orion isn't even observable in the night sky. The KC south shaft was basically 'out of service' for over one-sixth of the year!
