I see you can use google to search for articles on the Internet. The Navajo did have some sheep but even the links that you have provided state that the Navajo were indeed nomadic. We hunted primarily as a means of food and we grew corn in canyons. The corn agriculture aspect was taught to us by the pueblo people. And the herding of animals was also given to supplement our food supplies by the Spanish. It also says that Kit Carson killed any sort of food source that was somewhat stationary. He burnt crops, killed sheep and poisoned the water. The Navajo had to rely on other ways to survive. Hunting, gathering and finding other resources of water was neccessary. Several member of my family still hunt in the traditional fashion to this day. Not a bit of the animal is wasted and they pray to the animals spirit for forgiveness when they take it's life. These are aspects of our culture that is indeed rare these days. What you find a lot of now, is the Navajo living off "mutton" and commodity food, a diet that does not suit us. Most of the Navajo are suffering from some kind of weight problem or diabetes. But that is another thread in itself.

What is it that you consider facts? Links on the internet or published text? Maybe I should get published and submit my articles as reference. The intent of this thread was meant to be informative. The Navajo reservation and it's people are finally at a point of sharing information with the rest of the world. We have been very closed up to this point. Alot of it stemming from what are considered atrocities committed to us by the U.S. government. We as a culture were wiped out. Most of us can't even speak our own language. I can't even trace my roots past my great grandparents. They were survivors of the Long Walk debacle and we have since perservered.

The information that the world has about the Navajo is what I would call filtered. And I would say that it is especially filtered in the case of skinwalkers. There really hasn't been a direct source of information from a Navajo about the Navajo. What have is a bunch of accounts documented by outside sources. Point in case, throughout my life when looking for answers, the "textbook" would say things about my culture that contradicted what my elders had said. The bering strait theory is a good example of this. I learned in school that we migrated across a thing strip of land looking for food. When my anscestors taught me that we sailed across a great body of water. Looking at the creation story for the Navajo, we emereged from the third world that was being engulfed by water. We were taught that the world we now live in is the fourth world.

So take it however you want. I will still share my stories and my thoughts. You can call me a liar if that's how you feel. It wouldn't be the first time I had faced adversity in the presence of modern culture outside of my tribe.
