Cost issues are most likely the reason, BUT maybe if the masses would just email the companies for a while, and use patience, if possible, maybe the sudden drop in revenue due to the time lag would get them back to people attending calls rather than the sluggish way the automation is doing it.
Plus, when we wade through the options list, and push endless choises, finally someone in Nairobe, or Indonesia that knows 15, or 20 words in your language gets on, and after all that, nothing gets accomplished! IMO email, or use postage,(if at all possible) and the companies will come around.
