I have less and less patience with robots. Where ever I call, a robot answers and starts babbling things at me that I don't want to hear. I find myself zoning out; it's hard to pay attention, or I feel rage starting to build because I just want to reach a human being and phrase my request or concern in my own words. Last time I was on hold going through one of these robot menus, I started wondering if this is changing our language and the way we think more than we know.
Television has been linked to ADD. I think the closest thing to ADD I've ever experienced is when I'm a phone line these days listening to one of these robots. Am I alone in this? What about when you listen to all 45+ choices of options and none of them are the reason you're calling? Do you scream when that happens? Why are companies doing this to their customers? Have you complained to companies that do this? The public needs to rise up and protest, but no one is except me, I think.
If they don't bother you, why not? Truthfully, doesn't their cheerfulness at least annoy you a little?
