It shouldn't take a rocket scientist to figure it out, though. Why does the fox run if not in fear for its life? When it's cornered and "reacts," what else is that but fighting for its life? Therefore, it's not unreasonable to assume that the fox has felt terrified and threatened. Conclusions are reached about human's and animal's thought processes on the basis of lesser observation. A humane death is one free from pain and fear. An inhumane death is cruel. Case closed.
