Robert -
The point of my initial post was that non-action is a <i>guarantee</i> of further atrocities by the expressed mindset of the enemy. Action will undoubtedly also provoke a reaction, but decisive action may in the interim have weakened our opponents and so limited their ability to strike.
But who knows what will happen? We are cursed with living in interesting times.
And don't start me on G. W. Bush ....
