I've seen several statements that it would be better to die than to fight, akin to the 'better red than dead' sentiment of the Vietnam era. This is a luxury of principle bought and paid for with the blood of Allied soldiers.

That's a good question, let's start with the Taliban. There are other extra-governmental institutional entities that are our enemies as well, in Egypt and in Palestine for instance. There are governmental enemies as well, Iraq being chief on the list.

And certainly you've not been leading the charge to retreat.
This is an enemy that only respects strength. These are people that think differently than you or I do, that have very different values.</HTML>
