I can agree that the western side of Menkaure is farther east in comparison becaus eit covers less grtound.
Menkaure was placed where it is to give its northern face a clear view to the north.
Just like Khafre's position to Khufu's. Khafre had to be placed a bit further out in the west so Khufu did not obstruct its view to the north.
I think this is the strongest reason to question Bauval's Orion correlation. All three pyrs. are simply positioned along sight lines to the north and all line up in a 45 degree angle on their S.E. corners. Makes sense to me.
