I know. I couldn't wrap my brain around that either.
What it is is that the smaller size of the pyramid alows it to be slightly inset whilst maintaining its position on the line.
Imagine moving the middle pyramid east. How would you do this while preserving its position in relation to the 45 degree line? You would reduce it's size.
So Menkeare's pyramid, in order to sit *where it sits* must be reduced in size in order to maintain the 45 degree line.
So why was the third pyramid placed where it is?
