Yes. If you move the mortuary temple with it. You are quite right. I was incorrect.
If the mortuary temple were to move north to bisect a larger Menkaure's pyramid, the offset would disapear - and so would the correlation with the belt stars.
The question is this: was Menkaure's pyramid accidentally rendered the exact size necissary to produce an offset to match that of the belt stars? Or was this intentional?
I think, without the OCT, your hypothesis is the most simple explanation (it was never finished) - and I believe this is largely the orthodox position. However, <i>if</i> the mt-OCT is as accurate, as I hope it will prove to be, this would be a very hefy coincidence for your hypothesis to bear.
Still...you might well be right - as dispaointed as I would be to reach such a conclusion. We'll see.
