Thanks very much for you opinions and informationby Hans - Ancient History
Is there a common basic design/layout for temples in the earliest civilizations? On a fringe site the claim has been made that all early civilizations used the same temple layout as mandated by the Gods. It is also claimed that this same layout was in use up to classical times. This doesn't sound plausible to me, opinions?by Hans - Ancient History
One side question. Anthony said, "or wooden walls with intricate carvings (including texts, perhaps?) and that these items would have been removed a long, long time ago." What evidence is there that the 'plain' rooms of the pyramid actually were decorated with wooden panels? Was this done elsewhere in Egypt?by Hans - Ancient History
Thanks for your imput Jammerby Hans - Ancient History
As far as we know a robotic probe came by 250,000 years ago, went into orbit around the sun and sent back data for several thousand years until its systems failed.by Hans - Laboratory
Recieved some antedotal information dealing with the state of Indian and Pakistani archaeology. It was said, "India has tended to underdevelop its resources, Pakistan even worse. This has happened because they have tired to develop their own archaeological resources while keeping other researchers outside the subcontinent" That doesn't sound plausible to me or is it?by Hans - Ancient History
In one of my first archaeology classes we took class time to take a look at Chariots of the Gods by EVD. I remember looking up references to debunk it. I'm glad to see Unis are still giving students a prep in that.by Hans - Ancient History
At the infamous Wikipedia I found the following list of pseudosciences and pseudo concepts, this seems like a rather incomplete list. What more could be added? Should any be deleted? Wouldn't/shouldn't Velikovsky and Sitchin be listed separately? Thank you Ronald that second link was very useful Dave L, could you give me a few more clues as to what your are referring to?by Hans - Ancient History
There are a variety of spellings for this writers name. He is suppose to have been an ancient Phoencian writer. I was trying to ascertain whether he was considered a real person or a fake/forgery and his writing too?by Hans - Ancient History
Have any other documents been found that showed the diplomatic exchanges between Egypt and other ME states besides the Amarna letters? Have any of these documents/clay tablets been dated? Thanksby Hans - Ancient History
Climate shift helped destroy China's Tang dynasty: scientists The Tang dynasty, seen by many historians as a glittering peak in China's history, was brought to its knees by shifts in the monsoon cycle, according to a study. Famed for a flowering of art and literature and for prosperity brought by trade with India and the Middle East, the dynasty spanned nearly three centuriby Hans - Ancient History

Not to forget that the Romans kept Troy as a central part of its existence, they even rebuilt and made what they thought was Troy into a tourist center. I don't recall any special Roman interest in Atlantis. Question, what mentions of the Atlantis myth are there in Roman sources?by Hans - Ancient History
They probably brought one log up from the 'petrified' forest and looked at the expiration date..... I presume they mean the forest is preserved by being waterlogged in cold, oxygen poor water?by Hans - Ancient History
Once long ago, when I was a lad learning Archaeology at school. One of my professors, Solheim, mentioned that when L'Anse aux Meadows was confirmed as a Viking site. One noted critic of the concept, who considered the sagas to be only myth, refused to accept the findings and came up with a counter-theory. His(her?) theory was that American Indians had gone to Iceland/Greenland and brought thby Hans - Ancient History
What bad fringe? What you are not sharing! "Meanwhile, I found something soooo bad today, I don't want anyone to even know the URL exists!" I must know, I must know - I'll trade, here is something really annoying and so easy to know is wrong (if you speak modern Greek or Italian)by Hans - Ancient History

I forgot to ask who would take over the business. It was in a very cramped area, rather dirty and smelly. His one comment on working for the British (as a stevedore) was that the English were nice but the Indian supervisors treated him like a dog. He was glad to come back to the Emirates where he became a policeman (for the British). He spent most of his time as a driver to the British head of Poby Hans - Ancient History
Well I made it a point to go by there. It's run by an Arab Gentlemen in his late 70s who as a young man worked for the British in India. He has working for him a number of Indian staff who can read and write in Farsi, English (to a certain degree) French, Arabic and a dozen Indian/Pakistani languages. They mainly translate between the various languages and type out the material on manual Royby Hans - Ancient History
Thanks Jammer and all Thanks for the information, oh and the scribe position has not entirely melted away. In the ME you can find guys who stillwrite out messages and forms for the uneducated. One such establishment is near me and the last time I went by they were busy using typewriters to write out messages in Tamil, Baluchi, Telugu, Oriya, Malaylam and dozen other sub-continent languages.by Hans - Ancient History
Ah, so it's my fault for asking a question for which the answer is not known? Gee, slap my wrist and call me a watermelon..... LOLby Hans - Ancient History
If we picked a time in Egyptian history, say around 2500 BC, what percentage of the people would have been able to read the language? Obviously the priests could (or is that just an assumption) could the noble class and artisans read it? I guess another part of this question would be, what percentage of the Egyptians were bureaucrats, priests, nobles and artisans?by Hans - Ancient History
On another board a question was raised about the Antikythera Mechanism being based on an earlier Chaldean design. The question is, did the Babylonians/Chaldeans have a background/history of developing such devices or 'being clever with gearing'?by Hans - Ancient History
