If we picked a time in Egyptian history, say around 2500 BC, what percentage of the people would have been able to read the language? Obviously the priests could (or is that just an assumption) could the noble class and artisans read it? I guess another part of this question would be, what percentage of the Egyptians were bureaucrats, priests, nobles and artisans?
