Once long ago, when I was a lad learning Archaeology at school. One of my professors, Solheim, mentioned that when L'Anse aux Meadows was confirmed as a Viking site. One noted critic of the concept, who considered the sagas to be only myth, refused to accept the findings and came up with a counter-theory. His(her?) theory was that American Indians had gone to Iceland/Greenland and brought the materials back with them.

1. Was this true? (that someone theorized it)
2. Who was this individual?
