Theories exist that relate the pyramids to stars. Bauval, for example, relates the apexes of the 3 Giza pyramids to the 3 belt stars of Orion. Collins, relates the apexes of the 3 Giza pyramids to the 3 wing stars of Cygnus. Let's say you are on a hypothetical planet revolving around any one of these 6 stars. From it, you can see the other 2 stars of the triad that relates to the pyramids(remember they are bright stats). It would thus make sense if being on any one of the 3 pyramid apexes you could see any one of the other two apexes. It is like symbolically being able to see the two stars from one particular star.
You ask if the ancients build three massive pyramids to point to a place? No, they didn't because it is more complex than that. But would it make more sense to say that they build three massive pyramids as tombs? I don't think so.
