The royal cubit was divided into 28 digits as shown in fig. 1, and the slopes of the Bent Pyramid reflect this unit of length as detailed in Appendix A. The measured slopes actually convert to simple lengths, most precisely so:

Lower Slope: a horizontal run of 20 digits for a vertical rise of 28 digits
Upper Slope: a horizontal run of 30 digits for a vertical rise of 28 digits

The ruined structure of the Bent Pyramid presented Petrie with a familiar challenge. He deduced dimensions of 360 royal cubits for the base side-length, and a height of 90 royal cubits for the level at the change in slope. Petrie’s ‘inductive metrology’ is considered further in Appendix B.

Side-length at level of bend: 360 – 2 (90 x 20/28) = 231 royal cubits 12 digits
Perimeter at level of bend: 4 x 231 royal cubits 12 digits = 25,920 digits
