It's always interesting to see pyramids represented in inscriptions etc and I've been meaning to look this up for a long time but still haven't checked any references so all I know is a short quote in an old guide book "The walls are entirely covered with carving in sunk relief... ...in the lower register are various figures of funerary gods Sokaris and Osiris and near the N.E. corner a representation of the tomb in the form of a pyramid".



It's the tomb of Sheshonk III at Tanis which has now lost its superstructure and so is a open pit. It was discovered by Professor Montet in 1939-40.



The tombs of several other 21st and 22nd Dynasty Pharaohs are close by with an extraordinary collection of reused sarcophagi ranging from Merenphat's from the Valley of the Kings and a hefty Old Kingdom example.

I was very confused but I hope to look up more information about the area in the EES Library as I want to revisit it next month.
