Hi Jammer,
No beliefs - just some ideas:
The wow factor - impressive awe inspiring sight when seen from the ancient Egyptian highway - closest to the river - commanding position near the edge of the western escarpment.

Khufu's pyramid was built around a convenient rocky mound that provided an extra stable foundation which also meant less limestone to quarry and haul to the site.
Khem, with its important 'Horus of Khem' shrine was due north of the Giza pyramid field, and Iunu, with its important temple enclosures was 45 degs to the north east. Although its not known for certain where the Horus of Khem shrine (somewhere in the vicinity of Ausim) and the shrines at Iunu (somewhere in the area of the main temple enclosures in the Cairo suburb of al-Matariyyah ) were located, its possible these two alignments intersected at the site where 'Khufu's Akhet' was built.
