Hardly. People have been doing it for centuries, starting with Thucydides.

To suggest that a question about Herodotus' credibility constitutes an argumentum ad hominem is just extraordinary! Herodotus has frequently been accused of misrepresentation, whether from misinformation, misunderstanding or some other reason. It would be useful, however, if someone could come up with some more recent studies of the question ...
