Hello Ritva,

Hmmm. Not the sort of story I would associate with priests of any period.
I see it as being a sort of AE equivalent of devout Christians arguing for Jesus marrying Mary Magdalene and starting a family.
On the other hand, accusing Herodotus of porkie-telling is, I feel, going a bit too far (it's simply not cricket to call a chap a liar without strong evidence to back it up), so I opt for an over-imaginitive 441 BC local "tourist guide" for the telling of this rather dubious story.

Anyway, I still don't see how something somebody might or might not have told a (to them) foreign traveller about a (then) two-thousand year old edifice can rightly be classed as evidence for anything.
When it comes to Herodotus and the Pyramids I think the best we can do is cautiously accept his tale that the First Pyramid was at the time of his visit to Giza complete - unless, of course, he was as short-sighted as a bat and somebody told him it was complete... winking smiley
