Hello Anthony,
Many thanks for the responses to my questions. Most helpful
I'm not convinced by some of your answers, but I need to think them all through before attempting to query them with you.
However, I would like to tackle one thing here and now, and that is your answer to my question:
"Wouldn’t the builders have made sure that the Subterranean Chamber was properly prepared for a king’s burial before starting work on the superstructure?"
You reply, 'Absolutely not. They would not have wasted a minute, since the ultimate goal was the completion of the 3rd (King's) Chamber.'
Then why did they build the magnificent and awesome Grand Gallery?
Surely the time and effort spent on building the Gallery would have delayed the building of the King's Chamber?
It is said by some that blocks to be used post-funeral to seal the Ascending Passage needed to be stored somewhere and so the Grand Gallery was built to accommodate them.
But the Grand Gallery is quite simply overkill.
If all it was needed for was to store a few blocks, why go to the trouble of building a vast corbelled roof.
If, as you suggest, time was of the essence, wouldn't the builders have kept things down to a minimum and simply continued the Ascending Passage (height and width doubled - just as the lower section of the GG is) up to the level where the KC was intended to be?
It doesn't quite gel somehow...
What am I overlooking... ?
Regards,
MJ
