You need to try to remember that part of the Khufu Early-Death-Emergency-Plan (KEDEP) requires shafts which can, in the case of need, be opened with a few chisel strokes, and the construction of the pyramid can then be halted, because, well, just because.

Although there is no evidence of 'air' shafts emanating from the subterranean chamber doesn't preclude the possibility that they haven't been discovered yet. Thus we are presented with KEDEP-1 and KEDEP-2, even though there really isn't any evidence to support any of this.
