I would agree that we're shooting ourselves in the foot with our economy. The value of the almighty dollar seems to be valued higher than assuring that equipment that people's lives depend on is kept up to date and well functioning.
It definitely is reflected in real estate as well. We're having a house built on the reservation where the yard size will be something like 9000 sq ft. We're paying $30,000 for that patch of land...when I seem to recall seeing acres of land being sold out here for the same amount. Interesting how it works. Must be the nearby playground/park/basketball courts that drove the price up on our patch.
